Norfolk Coastal Sailing Experience – On Salford, a 1950s Lug-Rigged Whelk Boat
Step aboard Salford, a 1950s lug-rigged whelk boat, and enjoy a hands-on coastal sailing experience along the Norfolk coast. Stable, seaworthy, and exceptionally safe, Salford is designed for coastal passages and shallow-water exploration, offering an authentic taste of life aboard a classic North Sea working boat.
Trips usually depart from our HQ in Wells-Next-the-Sea, with routes exploring the scenic North Norfolk coastline, including the wildlife-rich waters around Scolt Head, Brancaster, and Blakeney.
Led by experienced skippers, the experience is limited to eight guests, allowing participants to learn the ropes, handle sails, steer, and read coastal conditions. The trip prioritises learning and wildlife observation, with opportunities to spot seabirds, coastal mammals, and marine life, while also providing time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the rhythms of the sea. Each trip includes a pause for breakfast or lunch/supper, with hot tea or coffee, and the optional wild swim when conditions allow.
From quiet coastal waters to slightly more exposed stretches, Salford offers an authentic connection to traditional sailing and maritime heritage. Designed for small groups, the experience ensures a balanced blend of hands-on activity, observation, and relaxation, suitable for both newcomers and experienced sailors. Routes are dictated by wind and tide and shaped in close discussion with guests, ensuring every sail is unique.
Combined your charter with Victorious or My Girls, for larger groups.
