Knife with Marlin Spike
Product Details
The Coastal Exploration Co’s (CEC) knife
The CEC knife is based on the Royal Navy's standard issue pocket knife with marlin spike, sheep's foot blade, and can opener - forged in Sheffield steel. It has a rich history, dating back to around 1910. It was the first to feature a marlin spike, and later on included a can opener during World War I. The knife’s stainless steel blades resist corrosion, and the handle ensures a secure grip. Even today, the CEC’s version of this knife stays true to the original Royal Navy design, maintaining those cherished British maritime traditions. We also sell a two piece knife for those not required to splice a line!
A marlin spike is used primarily to untie stubborn knots, splice rope, or create a temporary handle for pulling on a rope with a marling spike hitch. To untie a knot, insert the spike into the knot to create space and loosen it. To create a marlin spike hitch, form a loop with the rope, pass a bight of the standing part through it, and insert the spike through the bight to tighten.
